We have been seeing the armed  conflict in the Paradise on earth, Kashmir, very closely through different perspectives. A book titled “Marginalisation in Kashmir” is viewing it from an altogether new angle and tries to redefine the concept of marginalisation from the perspective of media. It can’t be left for the State always to set the criteria for defining the marginalised. Debates and discussion have always raised questions on caste and historical marginalisation.
This book dovetails the stories of several groups of people rendered marginalised by the prolonged armed conflict in Kashmir. The author argues this in the format of a research work followed by ground journalistic reports.
The book is published by “New Delhi Publishers” and we request to conduct a review of the book.
Here is the brief summary of the book:-

“In Kashmir the prolonged armed conflict has swelled the sphere of the marginalized from few historical and geographical groups to almost the entire society.

Ex-militants are citizens without rights.

The school drop-outs of kunan-Poshpora rape victim families are sneered as ‘harami’ (sic. bastard).

After Papa 2 and Hari Niwas, it is Pellet gun that is disabling Kashmir.

“Don’t waste time and money; don’t strain yourself and family as I can’t see, my mother. To my right eye, you appear crow-black and to my left eye, you are hazy”.

Half-mother’s last wish

“….Come in the dream; have pity, have mercy on my wretched form. Only then my tightened and strained nerves will stretch……..”

The killed civilian’s mother

                               Marne chhaanay aaftaaban paan khoatt

You died and the sun hid its face

Marne chhaanay gao jahaanas aenei goat

You died and the world plunged in darkness

Declining population, cultural shock and identity crisis due to the highly scattered rehabilitation will make Kashmiri Pandits the worst marginalised group.
